Getting started

Three options that are always worth investigating:

1. Call in at a local tackle shop and ask if there are any local guides or instructors. (They will charge a fee.)
2. Ask at the shop too for contact addresses of fishing clubs — both local and in areas you would like to fish. Then ask them if they have any tuition schemes.
3. Ask those same clubs if they have older members who, although experienced and skilled anglers, need help with (say) transport or carrying their gear along steep banks or rocky shores or who are just a little too infirm to go on their own. Then offer to assist them while they show you how to catch a few in return.

Another useful resource is your local library. Try to find books published before the sport became overly technical about the mid 1970's.
