Reels: Must have an exposed rim for playing running fish, plenty of backing, and if a drag is fitted it must be very reliable. Ideally choose a reel manufactured for sea use, or a cheap plastic or graphite job. Lubricate the reel beforehand, wash it in fresh water and re-lubricate afterwards. The tiny spring that holds the spool release catch always seems to give out first. |
